Food – Kai
Burning Horse takes place on a family farm: The Montana Flat. A third generation, conventional sheep and beef farm which produces 6000 lambs and 100 cattle annually. Riversdale soils and the Northern Southland climate combine to provide excellent growing conditions and a long season. The Montana Flat employs 3 full-time staff; Ryan Burns – Diploma in Rural Business and Farm Management, Zeb Horrell – Bachelor of Agricultural Science and Rohan Horrell – boasting nearly 60 years experience.
Whilst aspiring to hold true to its foundations, this property is in a transformative stage. Evolving from single-use agriculture to a hub of innovation and potential allows us to target sustainability and regeneration while providing an excellent platform for diversity so that we can extend the range of food produced. Taking advantage of this special position allows us to offer a range of menu choices, the majority of which have been grown, harvested and prepared within walking distance of the Burning Horse festival site.
Beefy Green
Everyone who came and enjoyed the 2018 event will know all about the legend that is Beefy Green. Beefy Green is itself a product of hemp, an awesome plant with untold benefits to our diet. The dudes behind this brand, who just happen to be industry leaders in NZ will provide Hemp protein smoothies, plant-based meals and a range of alternative options to the ya standard hot dog and chips, so you can leave your picnic basket at home. If you’re interested, here’s a link to check out other hemp supplements and learn how to integrate them into your diet. https://beefygreen.co.nz/.
Our plan is to ensure that a range of food options is available. All will be good for body and soul. All will be plant-based or sustainably grown on The Montana Flat or nearby.
